WHY HIP HOP
Hip Hop is a diverse and complex cultural movement with profound influence on music, language, fashion, and popular culture. While it holds many complex voices and messages, it has a long history of challenging systemic oppression and shaping conversations about justice, freedom, and liberation. Artists such as Public Enemy, Lauryn Hill, Kendrick Lamar and many others have used their music as a tool to address racism, state-sanctioned violence, mass incarceration, and other social issues. Yet messaging addressing animal exploitation and animal liberation remain underrepresented in Hip Hop.
Hip Hop For Animal Rights (HHFAR) seeks to help bridge this gap by exploring the connections between Hip Hop culture and animal liberation through music and creative expression.
OUR WORK
Our Music Sponsorship Initiative will bridge this gap by supporting emerging Hip Hop artists creating music exploring animal rights, veganism, plant-based eating, healthy living, food justice, or collective liberation.
Through nationwide submission cycles, HHFAR will select one original Hip Hop song per cycle for sponsorship, prioritizing music that meaningfully connects to animal liberation, veganism, and related social or environmental issues. Selected artists will receive professional music video production, short-form content, artist features, and promotional support through digital advertising, playlist placement, and relevant networks.
By investing in artists and amplifying their music, HHFAR aims to increase the visibility of animal advocacy themes and introduce them to wider Hip Hop audiences.
OUR PLAYLIST
Created in 2019, the HHFAR Vegan Hip Hop Playlist is a curated mix of dope sounds, great flows, and good vibes, bringing together Hip Hop that explores veganism, plant-based eating, animal liberation, food justice, and related themes. The playlist is an ongoing resource for music lovers, artists, educators, and advocates interested in discovering the connections between Hip Hop and our relationships with animals. Every song has to pass the ear test or it ain’t making the cut. Got a song suggestion? Contact us below 🎧
Hip Hop for Animal Rights is in the early stages of nonprofit formation, with the goal of becoming a 501(c)(3) public advocacy and cultural organization by summer 2027. Donations are not currently tax-deductible and will help us work toward our first music sponsorship, supporting Hip Hop artists creating music connected to animal liberation.
